How it Works

WaterAid’s Gifts for Life are the perfect way to give fantastic, unusual gifts to your family and friends… and help some of the world’s poorest people at the same time!
When you buy a gift from this catalogue, your friend or family member will receive an awesome Gift Card – showing the gift you purchased for them, and how it’s helping save lives. Your donation is then used to deliver water, sanitation and hygiene projects to the world’s poorest people – transforming their lives.
It’s like a waterfall of gift-giving happiness!
The best news of all is that each gift represents real items that we use in our projects. Your donation goes towards projects that literally help give people taps, toilets and water tanks, for example. Those things help save lives!
So you can feel great knowing your gift shopping is all taken care of right here. And your loved ones will get a smile from a gift that gives people a healthier, happier future.
Plus, as an extra help to you, your donation is completely tax deductible. And that’s always a gift!

HOW THE GIFTS PRICES HAVE BEEN CALCULATED

The prices of gifts are calculated based on the costs associated with delivering that item or project and the number of beneficiaries. The gifts are examples of how your tax-deductible donation will be used to help provide some of the world’s poorest communities with access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. The funds raised will support WaterAid’s water, sanitation and hygiene projects, including but not restricted to the items featured in this catalogue.

HOW YOUR GIFT FOR LIFE WILL HELP

When we met ten year old Claudia, in her village in Madagascar, she told us of her experience collecting water from a young age.

“I started fetching water with a small bucket when I was four… The rain makes the path slippery and it’s difficult when we climb back up the hill. I often fall down when lifting up the heavy jerrycan.”

Collecting water is not only a burden that falls on women, young girls are often given the job of walking hours every day with back-breakingly heavy water cans. These girls should be in school, protected from poverty and the very diseases in the water they’re carrying.

You see, it’s not only a dangerous walk… the water Claudia collects is contaminated.

“The water source where I fetch water is located near the rice-field down the hill on the north side of our village… The water is dirty because there is no protection and it’s above the rice-field.”

Claudia has no choice but to collect dirty water – polluted by algae and fertilizer – and drink it.

“My young siblings and I are often sick. We often have stomach ache,” says Claudia, “We don’t go to the health centre as it’s very far from our village and our parents don’t have money to pay the doctor. When we’re sick we just stay at home…”

Each day in Madagascar and around our world, thousands of children fall sick or even die from diseases caused by unsafe water and sanitation.

You can help change this when you give a Gift For Life.

Each item is carefully chosen to help fund WaterAid projects that save the lives of children like Claudia. And by giving a Gift of Life to friends and family, you’ll help spread the joy all around the world!
